Dolphin’s grieving mother shared new details about the tragic drowning incident involving her son Levi on Facebook recently, stating that the decision to leave him unsupervised will “haunt me for the rest of my life.” Kallie Wright broke her silence over the weekend as she and husband Spencer Wright took their 3-year-old off life support.
In a heartbreaking post written at 3 a.m., Kallie shared details about the moments before Levi drove his toy tractor into a creek behind the family’s Utah home on May 21st. The small waterway divides the Wright’s property from Levi’s grandparents, with a concrete road running through it and being accessible during drier months. Wright even shared a video of Levi and his sister Steeley, along with their dad Spencer, crossing the shallow stream on horseback.
It’s how we’ve gotten to their house safely most days as sometimes our dirt road is a nascar raceway,” she wrote. My kids have ridden their bikes, driven their ride-on toys & even walked this way a million times.” She explained that water only runs through for a short time during the year and can change overnight.
On the fateful day, Kallie gave Levi permission to ride his tractor on the family’s 24-acre property but warned him to stay away from the creek. The toddler’s grandmother wasn’t home at the time, so she asked him to only ride around the house.
As he drove off, I ran back inside the house,” Kallie admitted in her Facebook post. That’s a decision that will haunt me for the rest of my life.” She went on to explain how different tasks like checking on her sleeping baby or washing dishes could have potentially saved Levi from his tragic fate, but she chose not to follow him that day.
Levi vanished beneath the fast-moving currents and was dragged about a mile down the river; however, it remains unclear how long he had been submerged before being found by rescuers. Despite showing some promising signs early on – even waking up in his hospital bed at one point – multiple tests and MRI scans proved that Levi was not improving, leading to the difficult decision to take him off life support on Sunday.
In sharing her “vulnerable and hard” story with followers, Kallie pushed back against online attacks directed towards her family while also acknowledging her own guilt over the incident. She highlighted three things she believes to be true: firstly, that she is not a perfect mom but is a good one; secondly, that her little boy loved her unconditionally; and lastly, that anyone can find themselves in such a tragedy within mere seconds.
