In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a California couple decided to relocate their wedding ceremony to a hospital chapel in order to fulfill the dying wish of the bride’s father. The emotional event took place at St. Joseph Hospital, where Abraham Arceo, who is battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer, was able to accompany his daughter Brittny down the aisle and give her away to her beloved.
The ceremony was filled with tears of joy and sadness as family members, friends, hospital staff, and even doctors gathered to watch the emotional union. Brittny’s original wedding date was still set for later in June; however, due to her father’s rapidly progressing cancer, she decided to move the wedding up and have it at the hospital.
The staff at St. Joseph Hospital played a crucial role in making this special day happen by planning out every detail of the ceremony down to measuring door widths to ensure that Abraham’s wheelchair would fit through and having a backup plan in case it didn’t. Their hard work paid off, and with an IV bag trailing closely behind, Abraham was wheeled to the altar with his hand holding his daughter’s.
Very emotional. It’s just been very hard lately, but we’re just glad they were able to do this for us. It meant a lot to Brittny, to me,” said Cecilia Arceo, the bride’s mother and wife of Abraham. Just wanted to make sure he was able to see her get married.
For Brittny, having the wedding in the hospital was even more meaningful than any extravagant venue she could have chosen. She shared that being able to share this moment with her father meant the world to her and that his happiness was all she cared about.
