Fatphobia in Hollywood: 360-pound NYC waiter sues Paramount after being shunned from Mean Girls party

A classically trained tenor, Joseph Sacchi, was reportedly removed from working a lucrative bash for the “Mean Girls” movie premiere at The Ribbon restaurant on West 72nd Street due to his weight. Paramount honchos allegedly instructed the manager not to let him work the event, which would have earned him a $770 tip. Sacchi claims he didn’t interact with the representatives during their inspection of the restaurant, suggesting that his appearance was the sole reason for exclusion. The city had passed an anti-discrimination law in May 2023, making it illegal to treat people differently based on their size in employment, public accommodations, and housing. Sacchi is seeking unspecified damages from both The Ribbon restaurant and Paramount Pictures, alleging that the restaurant should have protected him from “customer bullying.
