House Republicans Threaten Contempt Charges as DOJ Fails to Produce Biden Interview Recordings – White House in Hot Water

House Republicans are putting pressure on Attorney General Merrick Garland over the Justice Department’s failure to provide subpoenaed audio recordings of former Special Counsel Robert Hur’s interview with President Biden. In response to the lack of cooperation, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan have threatened to hold Garland in contempt of Congress.

The subpoenas, issued on February 27, requested the production of audio recordings of Hur’s interviews with President Biden and with Mr. Zwonitzer, as well as the corresponding transcripts. However, the Department of Justice has failed to comply with these requests, leading to the threat of further action.

In a letter addressed to Garland, Comer and Jordan emphasized the legal obligation to produce the requested materials and set a deadline of April 8, 2024, for compliance. Failure to meet this deadline could result in the invocation of contempt of Congress proceedings.

The White House has previously claimed that Biden is exonerated, despite the testimony provided by Robert Hur. However, this ongoing dispute over the production of audio recordings raises questions about the transparency and accountability of the Biden administration.

As this is a developing story, further updates are expected. Brooke Singman, a political correspondent and reporter for Digital, Channel, and FOX Business, will provide the latest updates on the 2024 campaign trail and exclusive interviews. Stay tuned for more political content.
