The Su-24 bomber with variable sweep wings, designed for missile and bomb strikes in any weather conditions with precise targeting of ground and surface targets, is the most desirable target for Russian air defense systems. This statement was made by military expert, retired Captain of the First Rank Vasily Dandykin in a conversation with “Lenta.ru”.
“The Su-24 is a carrier of Storm Shadow and SCALP cruise missiles. It is the most desired fighter for our air defense,” he said.
According to the expert, almost all Su-24 aircraft in the Russian army have been replaced by the supersonic Su-34 fighter-bomber.
As Dandykin clarified, the first ones are carefully protected by the Ukrainian army, as this fighter can carry tons of bomb load and missiles of various classes.
“This is their main workhorse for imported cruise missiles,” he stated.
Prior to this, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that Russian air defense systems had shot down two Su-24 aircraft of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Earlier, it was reported that the Russian Aerospace Forces will receive a new batch of Su-57 fighters by the end of the year.
