The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) lack the means of air defense (AD) to intercept Russian missiles, and the West cannot rectify the situation. Former Supreme Allied Commander Europe of NATO, Jean-Paul Palomeros, made this statement in an interview with LCI channel.
“Ukraine has been facing a shortage of AD means for several months and is less successful in intercepting Russian missiles,” he said.
According to Palomeros, only the United States can solve this problem, as Europe cannot produce similar weapons in a short period of time.
Prior to this, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that Russian AD systems destroyed 992 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the AFU in a week.
Russian military forces began striking Ukrainian infrastructure in October 2022, shortly after the explosion on the Crimean Bridge. Since then, air alarms have been regularly declared in various regions of Ukraine, often throughout the country. As stated by the Russian Ministry of Defense, the attacks target objects in the energy sector, defense industry, military command, and communication.
