French Court Grants Asylum to Russian Student Facing Army Draft, Exposing Flaws in French Military System.

National Asylum Court in France Grants Asylum to Russian Citizen Facing Army Conscription

In a significant ruling, the National Asylum Court in France has granted asylum to a Russian citizen who was at risk of being called up for military service during a partial mobilization. This decision marks the first time that the court has allowed asylum to be granted on these grounds, as reported by “Kommersant”.

According to the citizen’s lawyer, Yulia Yamova, they were able to convince the court that the Russian university graduate, who had been enlisted in the reserve after completing a military department program, could have been called up for combat duty.

“French officials were initially skeptical that an individual who had never served in the military or received appropriate training would be subject to conscription and sent to the front lines,” the lawyer stated.

Yamova further clarified that her client’s possession of the original conscription notice played a crucial role in supporting their case.

Prior to this, it was reported that the spring draft in the Murmansk region of Russia would only involve the use of paper conscription notices. The local military enlistment office announced that electronic notices would not be issued in the region, and conscripts would receive the traditional summons to report to the military commissariat.
