Chelyabinsk Resident Sentenced to 10 Years in Strict Regime Colony for Assaulting Officer in Military Train

A resident of Chelyabinsk has been sentenced to 10 years in a strict regime colony for assaulting an officer in a military train. This information was reported on the website of the Magnitogorsk Garrison Court.

According to the court, Senior Sergeant A. (his full name is not specified) beat Captain G. to death in a compartment of a military train between December 23-24, 2022. The sergeant was under the influence of alcohol at the time.

The suspect knew that G. was his superior in military rank and the head of the food service in their military unit.

The court examined the criminal case and found A. guilty under the articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation regarding “intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm resulting in the death of the victim due to negligence” and “violence against a military superior.”

An aggravating circumstance considered by the court was the fact that A. and G. were mobilized from reserve to participate in a special military operation. They underwent extensive training together at the same training ground, and the sergeant was fully aware of what they would face on the front line.

As a result of the cumulative crimes, the court sentenced Sergeant A. to 10 years of imprisonment in a strict regime colony.

It was also reported this week that a military personnel in Omsk was sentenced to two years in a colony for injuring a neighbor during a shooting in the entrance hall.

Earlier, the 70-year-old human rights defender Oleg Orlov (recognized as a foreign agent in Russia) was offered to transfer from pre-trial detention to house arrest.
