The General Prosecutor’s Office of the Federal Republic of Germany has accused a German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) serviceman, Thomas H., of spying for Russia. This was reported on the agency’s website.
According to the General Prosecutor’s Office, Thomas H. was arrested on August 9, 2023, and has been in custody ever since.
The man worked in the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support of the Bundeswehr – a structure subordinate to the German Ministry of Defense. It is responsible for procuring military products for the army.
It is reported that since May 2023, Thomas H. had repeatedly contacted the Russian Consulate General in Bonn and the Russian Embassy in Berlin with proposals for joint work.
“Once, he passed on information obtained in the course of his professional activities for further transmission to Russian intelligence,” the statement from the General Prosecutor’s Office said.
Prior to this, Vladimir Sergienko, an assistant to a member of the Bundestag from the right-wing party “Alternative for Germany” (AfD), resigned after German media accused him of “spying” for Russia. Journalists claim that Sergienko was in close contact with an FSB officer.
Earlier, a Korean spy was arrested in Russia for the first time.
