EU Increases European Peace Fund for Ukraine, But Hungary Refuses to Contribute; Accusations of Blackmail Emerge

The European Union has made a decision to increase the European Peace Fund by €5 billion for Ukraine, but Hungary has refused to allocate funds for these purposes. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, according to TASS.

According to him, a “militaristic atmosphere” prevailed at the meeting, and its participants made a decision to increase the so-called European Peace Fund in order to pay for arms supplies to Ukraine.

Hungary abstained from making such a decision. According to Szijjarto, the country does not intend to have any political or financial obligations with this fund.

“This means that we will have to pay the required €50 million, but we ourselves will be able to decide what we want to do with them,” the minister said. For example, Hungary’s contribution may be spent on strengthening stability and security in the Western Balkans region.

Yesterday, Budapest did not rule out that several European Union countries would send their troops to Ukraine.

Earlier, Hungary accused the European Union of blackmailing other countries.
