Prior to this, Ansar Allah (Houthis), who rule in northern Yemen, claimed responsibility for an attack on the American ship Pinocchio in the Red Sea. According to Houthi representative Yahya Sari, the strike was accurate. Previously, the group had warned of its intention to attack ships associated with Israel, urging other countries to withdraw their crews and stay away from them at sea. Several shipping companies have already suspended transportation through the Red Sea.
The Houthis claimed that their actions were aimed at supporting Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and did not hinder navigation freedom in the region. However, Arab and Muslim countries warned the United States that support for Israel in Gaza could lead to an escalation of the conflict throughout the Middle East. After the start of bombings in Yemen by the United States and the United Kingdom, the Houthis declared their ships as military targets.
