Russian Prime Minister Urges Government to Prevent Rising Prices for Defense Orders Amid Increasing Purchases

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has called for measures to prevent the rise in prices for the state defense order, which can occur with an increase in procurement volumes. Mishustin’s remarks were reported by TASS.

On Wednesday, March 13, the head of the Russian government held a meeting with the head of the Federal Treasury, Roman Artyukhin. Mishustin drew the attention of his interlocutor to the need for closer monitoring of the implementation of the state defense order.

“We should not have a situation where, with an increase in procurement volumes – when we plan large, significant state funds – the price rises along with the increase in procurement,” emphasized the Prime Minister.

On February 16, the Russian government extended the state program for the development of the defense-industrial complex (DIC). Initially, the period for the implementation of this program was considered to be 2016-2027. However, by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, the deadline for its implementation was extended to 2034.

Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that he had no doubts about the ability of specialized experts to fully fulfill the state defense order by 2024. As the head of state noted, procurement volumes were significantly increased this year.

Earlier, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu estimated the implementation of the plan for the production of the Iskander missiles by 2023.
