House Republicans Skeptical of Impeaching Biden, Lack Will to Proceed: Former Counsel Julian Epstein Weighs In.

House Republicans Express Doubt Over Biden Impeachment Inquiry

House Republicans are growing increasingly skeptical of the success of their push to impeach President Biden. Rep. Troy Nehls of Texas stated, “I don’t think we have the will to impeach Joe Biden… We just don’t. We’ve got a two-seat majority. You’ve got some guys in these tough districts that don’t want to alienate maybe independents or moderates.” Each GOP lawmaker interviewed expressed the belief that the investigation has uncovered damaging information about Biden, but they were unsure if the House would actually hold an impeachment vote.

The razor-thin majority held by House Republicans has made it difficult for them to pass significant legislation in the past, which raises doubts about the feasibility of impeaching Biden. Rep. Greg Murphy of North Carolina acknowledged the unpredictability of certain members within the party, stating, “We have some folks who love to scream, rant and rave, and have gotten all involved in their ego. You never know where those folks are going to come out one moment or the other. He added, “I do surely think there’s evidence there.” Another GOP lawmaker who requested anonymity agreed that the impeachment push has lost momentum, attributing it to the hectic environment of a presidential election year.

Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska, who represents a district Biden won in 2020, defended the impeachment inquiry as a fact-finding mission. While investigators have not yet uncovered a definitive smoking gun, Bacon emphasized the importance of the investigation in informing voters about the truth. He also noted that the staff has not been able to identify a specific crime, which he views as a problem.

The House voted to formalize the impeachment inquiry into Biden in mid-December, with all members of the Republican Conference supporting the investigation. The House Oversight Committee is now leading a joint investigation with the House Judiciary and Ways & Means Committees into allegations that Biden used his former position as vice president to benefit himself and his family. The White House has denied these claims.
