The crash of a military transport aircraft Il-76 in the Ivanovo region was caused by an engine fire during takeoff, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The statement noted that the Il-76 crashed during takeoff while performing a routine flight.
On Tuesday, March 12, information about a possible plane crash at the Northern Aerodrome appeared in the public forums of the city of Ivanovo. Images with black smoke were widely spread.
The Telegram channel Baza reported that there were 12 people on board the aircraft. According to the channel, the plane caught fire during landing. Preliminary data suggests that it landed in the cemetery area near the village of Bogorodskoye, not far from the aerodrome. The aircraft was partially destroyed and continues to burn. There is currently no information about the condition of the people on board.
During the night and morning of March 12, regions of the Russian Federation were subjected to drone and missile attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
