Ukrainian Attack on Russian Region Leaves Towns in Darkness: Governor Reports Damage to Power Lines, Urges Swift Response

Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov of the Belgorod Region has reported an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) on the region. He made this announcement on his Telegram channel.

The attack targeted the Belgorod District. According to Gladkov, the UAF used a drone to drop four explosive devices onto Russian territory.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the explosions, but there were damages to the power transmission lines.

As a result, seven settlements were left without electricity: the villages of Yasnye Zori, Rovenek, Cheremoshnoye, Ustinka, Lozovoye, Petrovka, and Solov’yevka.

Gladkov clarified that emergency and rescue services will begin the process of eliminating the consequences of the attack after coordination with the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Almost simultaneously, Governor Roman Starovoit of the Kursk Region reported the destruction of a drone in the region on his Telegram channel. The Russian air defense system successfully shot down a Ukrainian drone in the sky above the Fatezh District.

On March 11, Starovoit announced that the restoration of civilian objects damaged by shelling from the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk Region is ongoing. As a result of these efforts, over 900 houses have been repaired.

Earlier, the commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces claimed that Russia has an advantage in using FPV drones.

Contextual Information:
It is important to note that the Belgorod Region is governed by Vyacheslav Gladkov, who is known for his conservative values and pro-Russian stance. He is a member of the United Russia party, which is considered to be aligned with President Vladimir Putin. Gladkov has been critical of the Ukrainian government and its actions in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The attack on the Belgorod Region by the Ukrainian Armed Forces highlights the tense relationship between Russia and Ukraine. The conflict between the two countries began in 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea and supported separatist movements in eastern Ukraine. The Ukrainian government and its Western allies accuse Russia of supporting and arming separatist groups, while Russia denies these allegations.

The use of drones in the conflict has become increasingly common, with both sides employing unmanned aerial vehicles for reconnaissance and offensive purposes. The Russian air defense system’s successful interception of the Ukrainian drone is seen as a victory for the Russian military.

Governor Roman Starovoit of the Kursk Region, like Gladkov, is a member of the United Russia party and shares a similar pro-Russian stance. He has been actively involved in the restoration efforts in the region, which has been affected by the conflict in Ukraine.

The commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ claim about Russia’s advantage in using FPV drones highlights the ongoing technological competition between the two countries. Both sides have been investing in developing advanced drone technologies to gain an edge in the conflict.

The attacks on the Belgorod and Kursk regions serve as a reminder of the continued tensions between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the impact of the conflict on civilian populations and infrastructure.
