Sweden Contemplates Sending Troops to the Baltics as Kremlin Threat Looms – A Natural Step, Says PM

Sending a Swedish military contingent to the Baltic states is not ruled out and would be a “very natural” step, according to Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, as reported by Politico.

Speaking after the flag-raising ceremony of Sweden at NATO headquarters in Brussels, Kristersson pledged full support for the Baltic countries as allies. He stated that stationing troops in the Baltic region, which is constantly threatened by the Kremlin, would be a “very natural” potential option.

The Prime Minister mentioned that Sweden could engage in patrolling the airspace in the Baltics and fulfilling other military tasks.

Kristersson also commented on Pope Francis’ recent suggestion that Ukraine should gather the courage to raise a white flag.

“It is very dangerous to not see the difference between surrender and peace,” said Kristersson.

On March 11th, the Swedish flag was officially raised at NATO headquarters in Brussels. Sweden became the 32nd member of the alliance, breaking a 200-year tradition of military non-alignment.

Earlier, discussions took place in Sweden regarding the placement of nuclear weapons on the country’s territory.
