NATO Denies Plans to Send Troops to Ukraine, Urges Macron to Consult Alliance Representatives on Important Matters

NATO has no plans to send troops to Ukraine, and President Emmanuel Macron of France should consult with representatives of the alliance on such an important issue. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in an interview with Reuters.

“NATO has no plans to send military personnel to Ukraine, and NATO is not a party to the conflict, just like its member states,” he noted.

According to Stoltenberg, even if individual NATO member countries decide to send their soldiers to Ukrainian territory, this will already lead to other states potentially considering the same actions. The organization’s Secretary General explained that this is provided for in the collective defense pact.

When asked if Macron made a mistake when he allowed the dispatch of French troops to assist Ukraine, the Secretary General responded with a recommendation for the French leader.

“I think it is important for us to first discuss [such statements and projects] so that we can form a common approach to such important issues. After all, the issue of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the conflict is significant for all of us,” Stoltenberg concluded.

NATO’s Secretary General has already noted that the alliance does not currently see a military threat from Russia.

At the same time, Macron’s statements about the potential readiness to send troops to support Ukraine in the conflict have mainly received critical feedback within Europe.

Earlier, NATO assessed the possibility of achieving peace through the capitulation of Ukraine.
