Ukrainian Foreign Minister Urges Western Allies to Send Military Specialists Back Amid Controversial Training Missions

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba has called on Western partners to send their military specialists back to the country to train Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) fighters. This statement was reported by TASS.

“I honestly don’t understand why the issue of training missions in Ukraine provokes so much controversy… I don’t see any reason why this cannot continue. Bring back your specialists,” the diplomat said at a press conference with the heads of the foreign ministries of Latvia, Lithuania, France, and Estonia.

Kuleba also urged Western countries to return their air defense systems to Ukrainian training grounds.

He noted that from 2014 to 2022, there were many training missions in Ukraine that, in his words, worked very effectively.

Last year, Ukraine assured that it would not allow the presence of foreign troops on its territory until the conflict was resolved. This was how the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba commented on the words of former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen about the readiness of some alliance countries to send their troops to help Kyiv.

Earlier, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister called on citizens who had left the country to return to defend their homeland.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Urges Western Partners to Send Military Specialists for Training Ukrainian Forces

In a recent statement, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba has urged Western partners to reinstate their military specialists in Ukraine to provide training for the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF). Kuleba’s call for assistance comes as the conflict in Ukraine continues to escalate, and the need for skilled and well-prepared soldiers becomes increasingly evident. However, this plea for support has been met with skepticism and controversy.

Kuleba expressed his frustration at the opposition surrounding the training missions in Ukraine, stating, “I honestly don’t understand why the issue of training missions in Ukraine provokes so much controversy… I don’t see any reason why this cannot continue. Bring back your specialists.” The Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of ongoing training missions, highlighting their effectiveness in previous years.

Furthermore, Kuleba appealed to Western countries to return their air defense systems to Ukrainian training grounds. This move would enhance the capabilities of the UAF and provide a much-needed boost to Ukraine’s defense infrastructure.

It is worth noting that Ukraine had previously declared its opposition to the presence of foreign troops on its territory until a resolution to the conflict was reached. Kuleba responded to former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen’s remarks about the readiness of certain alliance countries to support Ukraine by reaffirming Ukraine’s stance and calling on its citizens who had left the country to return for the defense of their homeland.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister’s request for military assistance has generated mixed reactions both domestically and internationally. Critics argue that involving Western countries in Ukraine’s internal affairs could further complicate the situation and potentially escalate the conflict. Others, however, view this as a necessary step to ensure Ukraine’s security and stability.

As tensions continue to rise in Ukraine, the decision to reintroduce Western military specialists and air defense systems remains a contentious issue. The outcome of this debate will undoubtedly have significant implications for Ukraine’s future and the ongoing conflict in the region.
