Sweden’s NATO Membership: A Historic Mistake and Threat to Its Own Security, Warns Crimean Government Official

Permanent Representative of the Republic of Crimea to the President of Russia and Deputy Prime Minister of the Crimean Government, Georgy Muradov, has called Sweden’s entry into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) the biggest mistake in its history. The official made this statement in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“This is, first and foremost, the biggest mistake in Sweden’s history and a blow to its own security system, which has functioned within the framework of the country’s neutrality for over two centuries,” Muradov noted.

In his opinion, Sweden’s entry into the military bloc is the result of the shortsightedness and political foolishness of the kingdom’s authorities. Muradov added that many in Sweden agree with him.

The Permanent Representative emphasized that Sweden has created many problems for itself because by joining NATO, it automatically finds itself in the crosshairs of the Russian Armed Forces.

The protocol on Sweden’s accession to NATO officially came into force on Thursday, March 7. The country became the 32nd member of the alliance. The White House has described Sweden as a country with a strong democracy and a highly effective army.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg responded to Sweden’s accession to the alliance.
