The Russian Ministry of Defense has announced that on March 8th, at around 13:00 Moscow time, it foiled an attempt by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to launch an attack using two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the aircraft type.
“In the airspace above the Belgorod region, the Ukrainian UAVs were destroyed by our air defense systems,” the statement reads.
Additionally, on March 8th, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported the destruction of three more UAVs above the Belgorod region and one above the Kursk region.
Prior to these incidents, Russian air defense forces had already destroyed two UAVs in the areas of Belomestnoye and Boldyrevo in the Belgorod region. No casualties or damage were reported.
The Ministry of Defense had previously announced that on the night of March 8th, air defense systems had shot down 11 UAVs over the Volgograd region and one over the Belgorod region.
Earlier, Russia had developed a new system for countering drones.
