Over 45,500 Women Serve in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Marking a Drastic Increase in Female Military Personnel: Ministry of Defense

In a recent statement by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, it has been revealed that over 45,500 women are currently serving in the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF). This information was shared in a message on the ministry’s Telegram channel.

“The number of women in the Ukrainian armed forces continues to increase. As of January 2024, there are 45,587 servicewomen in the Ukrainian army,” the statement reads.

This figure represents an increase of 2,108 personnel compared to October 2023.

Approximately 13,500 female servicemembers hold the status of combat participants.

Earlier, an analysis conducted by Texty.org.ua, a research publication, revealed that women could be enlisted in Ukraine’s mobilization reserve. According to the survey, out of 5.6 million women under the age of 60, 46% are raising children. The researchers believe that by mobilizing women without children, the reserve could be expanded by 3 million individuals. The article argues for the inclusion of women in service based on democratic principles, emphasizing equal rights and the participation of women in all areas of activity previously considered “exclusively male.”

It has also been reported that Ukrainian women may be involved in pre-conscription training.
