US Defense Department Investigates Mysterious Air Balloon Found off the Coast of Alaska. Is There a Spy Threat?

The US Department of Defense has begun investigating an air balloon found off the coast of Alaska, according to CNN. The military agency revealed that the debris turned out to be an air balloon.

“We do not know why the air balloon ended up in the waters off the coast of Alaska,” said Defense Department spokesperson Sue Goff.

She emphasized that she is not currently providing any characteristics of the aircraft. According to Goff, the Pentagon hopes to learn more about the origin of this mysterious find after analysis. The balloon has already been transported to the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage.

In early March, it was reported that debris from a spy air balloon was found off the coast of Alaska. The fragments of the balloon were discovered by the crew of a fishing vessel, who then handed them over to the FBI.

In 2023, the US announced that they had intercepted a Chinese aerostat that was operating through the American internet network.

Previously, Taiwan reported the approach of a Chinese air balloon to the island.
