Ukraine Considers Mobilizing Women to Improve War Efforts, Critics Question Equality and Effectiveness

Women Can Join Ukraine’s Mobilization Reserve, Report Suggests

According to a recent study conducted by the analytical publication Texty.org.ua, women could potentially contribute to Ukraine’s mobilization reserve. The study argues that if the war were to continue for years, the involvement of women could significantly improve the situation.

The survey revealed that out of the 5.6 million women under the age of 60, 46% are currently raising children. The authors of the study believe that by calling on women without children to join the reserve, an additional 3 million individuals could be added to the force.

The article justifies the inclusion of women in the military based on democratic principles, wherein women have equal rights to men and participate in all types of activities that were previously considered “strictly masculine.” As an example, the publication cites Britain’s experience during World War II.

In late February, it was announced that Ukrainian women would be encouraged to participate in pre-conscription training. According to a new law on mobilization passed on January 30th, women with medical or pharmaceutical education can be included in the military registry.

Earlier, the Russian ambassador called on President Zelensky and the West to acknowledge that Ukraine is heading towards disaster.

[Additional context: It is important to note that Ukraine has been engaged in a conflict with Russia since 2014, following Russia’s annexation of Crimea. The war in Ukraine has caused significant casualties and displacement of people, leading to ongoing tensions between Ukraine, Russia, and Western countries.]
