France and Moldova Sign Defense Cooperation Agreement, Raises Concerns about Moldova’s Alliances

France and Moldova have signed a cooperation agreement in the defense sphere. According to TASS, the agreement was made during the visit of Moldovan President Maia Sandu to Paris.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced that a permanent mission of the French Ministry of Defense will be opened in Chisinau. The main task of this representation will be to organize the training of Moldovan military personnel.

Macron and Sandu also signed a bilateral agreement on economic cooperation from 2024 to 2029.

Prior to this, French Foreign Ministry representative Christophe Leuan stated that France, along with other European Union countries, will continue to provide assistance to Moldova after Transnistria’s appeal to Russia. A congress of deputies at all levels was held in Transnistria before this. The convocation was initiated by the head of PMR, Vadim Krasnoselsky, citing economic pressure from Moldova as the reason.
