Former Deputy Criticizes Russian Special Operation in Ukraine, Fined 50,000 Rubles by Court

Motovilikha District Court has imposed a fine on former Perm City Duma deputy Sergei Medvedev (recognized as a foreign agent in Russia) who criticized the special military operation in Ukraine conducted by the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF). This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing the judicial body.

On December 31, 2023, Medvedev published a post on social media criticizing the special operation and the Russian authorities. A protocol was drawn up against him for disseminating information that expresses explicit disrespect for the state, state symbols, or government bodies, the court noted.

Initially, the case was sent to the Lenin District Court of the city, but it was decided to transfer it to the Motovilikha District Court, as Medvedev resided in this part of Perm.

As a result, the former deputy was fined 50,000 rubles. An agency source noted that the punishment can be appealed within ten days.

In addition to this, another administrative offense material against Medvedev was received by the police in the Motovilikha District Court at the end of February. It will be considered on March 18, concluded the source.

Earlier, journalist Roman Ivanov was sentenced to 7 years in prison for spreading fake news about the Russian Armed Forces.
