New York Attorney General Letitia James faced a hostile crowd at a firefighters’ ceremony as she brought a multi-million-dollar civil fraud case against former President Trump. As she approached the podium to honor the swearing-in of the first African-American woman chaplain of the FDNY, the Rev. Pamela Holmes, and other first responders, the crowd erupted in boos, chanting “Trump! Trump! Trump!” James attempted to calm the crowd by reminding them that they were in a house of God and asked them to simmer down, but the booing continued.
Despite the disruptive behavior, James pressed on with her remarks, paying homage to the bravery and dedication of first responders. However, even as she prayed for those firefighters who were booing her, the chanting of “Trump!” persisted. Chief of Department John Hodgens later condemned the rowdy behavior, stating that it was an embarrassment and not befitting of the world’s best fire department.
The New York Attorney General’s office has been contacted for a response to the incident. James, who has been vocal in her opposition to Trump, previously filed a lawsuit against the former president, accusing him of inflating his assets and committing fraud. Last month, a ruling was made that Trump is prohibited from operating his business in New York for three years and must pay a fine of over $350 million.
If Trump is unable to pay the judgment, James stated that she is prepared to ask the judge to seize his assets. This ongoing legal battle between James and Trump has garnered significant attention, especially considering Trump’s potential candidacy for the 2024 presidential race.
