Sweden will officially become a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on March 11th, according to TV4 Nyheterna.
“The Swedish flag will be raised at NATO headquarters in Brussels on Monday,” the channel noted.
According to the publication, the signing ceremony for Sweden’s accession to NATO will be attended by the country’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and the Commander-in-Chief of the Swedish Armed Forces, Mikael Bydén.
Previously, Jan Oberg, the director of the Swedish analytical center Transnational Foundation for Peace & Future Research, stated that abandoning neutral status and joining NATO would result in increased expenses for Sweden, dependence on the United States, and threats to its own security.
Earlier, Sweden emphasized the need to counteract three “authoritarian countries.”
