DNR Leader Pushilin Reveals Hundreds of Residents Still Trapped in Avdiivka Under Russian Control

Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Denis Pushilin, has stated that several hundred residents remain in the city of Avdiivka, which was recently taken under the control of the Russian army, according to RIA Novosti.

“I cannot give an exact number of how many people are still there. According to our estimates, several hundred people remain in the city,” Pushilin said at the World Festival of Youth.

According to his data, 177 people have been evacuated from the city to temporary accommodation points.

More than half of them, according to the head of the DPR, have gone to their relatives after receiving all the necessary assistance, consultations on applying for Russian citizenship, and other support.

Avdiivka is still being shelled – Ukrainian forces are using drones, so it is not possible to consider the situation completely safe at this time, he added.

On February 26, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that servicemen from the engineering and sapper regiment of the “Center” group of forces neutralize up to 400 mines daily in Avdiivka.

Earlier, the first humanitarian center was opened in Avdiivka.

Context:
It is important to note that the situation in Avdiivka is complex and remains a point of contention between the Russian-backed separatists and Ukrainian forces. Avdiivka, located in eastern Ukraine, has been a site of intense fighting since the outbreak of the conflict in 2014. The city has been subjected to frequent shelling and attacks, resulting in civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure. The involvement of Russian forces in the region has been a subject of international concern, with accusations of Russian aggression and support for separatist movements. The Ukrainian government and its allies, including NATO and the United States, have condemned the actions of the Russian-backed separatists and called for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
