Europe must supply Ukraine with all the necessary weapons, transition to a military economy, and increase funding for the defense sector to enable more extensive arms production. This statement was made by former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, as reported by the Neue Zürcher Zeitung newspaper.
“Europe must transition to a military economy and supply Ukraine with all the weapons it needs,” Rasmussen said.
Among other measures proposed by the former NATO chief is the creation of a defense and security commissioner within EU structures. Rasmussen believes that former US President Donald Trump’s statements, suggesting that countries failing to allocate at least 2% of their GDP to defense will not be defended by NATO, are extremely alarming. Particularly, as Rasmussen emphasized, in the context of a potential return of Trump to the White House.
Earlier, the Russian Ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, stated that Russia and NATO are facing a direct threat of armed confrontation.
Previously, NATO relied on the commitment of the United States during Trump’s presidency.
