Failed Negotiations in Cairo for Ceasefire in Gaza as Hamas Awaits Israeli Response

Negotiations in Cairo to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip involving Egypt, Qatar, the United States, and Hamas have ended without results. This was reported by Reuters.

Basem Naim, a member of Hamas leadership, said that during the negotiations, the movement presented its proposals to the parties. Hamas is now awaiting a response from the Israeli side, whose representatives did not attend the consultations.

On March 5, it was reported that the administration of US President Joe Biden has stepped up its demands on Israel for a temporary ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and an increase in humanitarian aid to the population.

Negotiations in Cairo on the cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip have been taking place since March 3. The Israeli delegation is not participating in the current round. On March 4, Al-Ghad TV channel reported that the parties had made “significant progress” on the first day of negotiations and hoped to reach some consensus by March 11.

Earlier, Basem Naim, the head of the organization’s external relations department in the enclave, stated that Hamas cannot gather information about hostages held in the Gaza Strip since October 7 of last year without a ceasefire.

It was previously reported that Arab countries are calling on Hamas to provide a list of hostages for release.
