Ukrainian Military Develops Advanced Sea Drones with Air Defense Systems, Poses Threat to Russian Army

Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov (listed as a terrorist and extremist in Russia), has announced that the developers of the Magura naval drones intend to enhance them by adding air defense systems, allowing them to engage targets both in the water and in the air. This is reported by the publication “Ukrainska Pravda”.

“At present, specialists are working on integrating air defense systems into unmanned aerial vehicles. Although I am not a technical expert, I understand that this is a complex task. It is necessary to have target detection means, an air object capture system, as well as a means of engagement – and all of this should be placed on a relatively small platform. It is a technically challenging task, but it is achievable,” Budanov’s words are quoted by the publication in response to a question about the modernization of Magura-type naval drones.

Previously, military expert Vasily Dandikin stated that the Magura V5 naval drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) pose a challenge to the Russian army, which needs to confidently counter it by using the most advanced weapons.

Earlier, the commander of the AFU stated that Russia has an advantage in the use of FPV drones.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense is reportedly working on upgrading its naval drones to enhance their capabilities in engaging targets both in the water and in the air. Headed by Kirill Budanov, who has been listed as a terrorist and extremist in Russia, this project aims to integrate air defense systems into the Magura drones.

While the technical complexities of this task are acknowledged, Budanov remains optimistic about its feasibility. The integration of target detection means, an air object capture system, and engagement capabilities onto a small platform is no small feat. Nevertheless, the team of specialists is determined to achieve this objective.

The Magura V5 naval drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have caught the attention of military expert Vasily Dandikin, who sees them as a challenge to the Russian army. In order to effectively counter this threat, he emphasizes the need for Russia to utilize the most advanced weapons at its disposal.

It is worth noting that the commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has previously expressed concerns over Russia’s advantage in the use of FPV drones.
