San Francisco State University Police Department has suspended its investigation into women’s sports activist and former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines’ hostage incident and assault last year. The department stated that the alleged charges were “unfounded.” Gaines claimed that she was assaulted and held hostage after speaking about her experience competing against transgender swimmer Lia Thomas. Following her speech, Gaines was met by a violent mob of protesters who assaulted her and held her hostage. Despite providing an official statement and meeting with campus police for hours, Gaines recently received an email stating that the investigation had been suspended. She also claimed that promised security footage was never provided. Gaines expressed her disappointment with the suspension of the investigation, believing that it sets a dangerous precedent and encourages similar incidents to occur in the future. She emphasized that she will not be silenced and that the incident has only motivated her to speak out more. The San Francisco State University Police Department has not yet commented on the matter.
