The alarming increase of Chinese illegal immigration in the United States has caught the attention of Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., who has witnessed the influx in his own district. Internal data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reveals that thousands of “special interest aliens” have unlawfully crossed into the country through San Diego, California since October.
These “special interest aliens” are individuals who originate from countries that pose potential national security concerns. It is crucial that citizens from these countries undergo additional vetting by federal authorities after being apprehended by Border Patrol. However, the numbers speak for themselves.
Since October, the San Diego sector has encountered citizens from various countries, including 2,500 from Mauritania, 2,500 from Uzbekistan, 1,600 from Afghanistan, 850 from Russia, 500 from Tajikistan, 400 from Kyrgyzstan, and 6,100 from Turkey. The list goes on to include individuals from Vietnam, Georgia, Senegal, Cameroon, Nepal, Romania, Ethiopia, Colombia, China, Mexico, Brazil, Ecuador, Guinea, India, Guatemala, and Peru.
The staggering total of 140,000 illegal immigrants crossing into the San Diego sector since the beginning of Fiscal Year 2024 on October 1st is deeply concerning. These numbers only add to the already overwhelming influx of migrants the United States has experienced this fiscal year, with over 961,000 encounters in total and a record-setting 2.4 million in fiscal 2023.
While December saw a record 301,000 encounters, there was a sharp drop to 176,000 in January. It is clear that the border crisis remains a significant issue that needs urgent attention. The situation has become so dire that President Biden is reportedly considering using provisions of federal immigration law previously utilized by former President Trump to address the crisis unilaterally.
This comes after the collapse of a bipartisan bill that sought to address border security spending and provide aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. President Biden’s team’s exploration of potential avenues to address the border crisis highlights the immense pressure he faces on this issue, which has become one of his biggest political liabilities since taking office.
It is essential to address the concerning increase in Chinese illegal immigration and the overall border crisis. The security and well-being of American citizens should always be the top priority of any administration. The need for comprehensive immigration reform and effective border security measures cannot be ignored.
