US Military to Train Ukrainian Pilots on F-16s, Raising Concerns about Ukraine’s Ability to Maintain Diverse Aircraft Fleet

American military will train 12 Ukrainian pilots in the operation of F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets on US soil this year, according to CNN.

According to Captain Erin Hannigan, the spokesperson for the Arizona National Guard, the Ukrainian pilots will complete their training from May to August.

The Ukrainian pilots have been divided into three training groups, with four members each. The first group began their pilot training in October of last year, followed by the second group in January. The third group is currently studying the English language.

Earlier, Yuriy Ignat, the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Air Force, stated that the Ukrainian army would not be able to afford and maintain a large number of various types of Western aircraft.

On February 17, the American publication Foreign Policy reported that the first F-16 fighter jets could appear in Ukraine in June 2024.

Previously, NATO had set conditions for the transfer of F-16s to Ukraine.
