Russian Military Discovers Abandoned Soviet and American Military Equipment in Avdiivka
In a recent development, the Russian military group “Tsentr” has claimed to have found dozens of abandoned Soviet and American military vehicles belonging to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (VSU) in Avdiivka. According to RIA Novosti, Deputy Commander-in-Chief under the pseudonym “Klever” revealed that approximately ten units of BMP-1 and around 7-8 units of American M113 armored personnel carriers (APCs) were discovered. Some of them have already been removed from the combat zone.
The military equipment was apparently left behind by Ukrainian forces as they retreated from the area. The Russian military intends to repair and utilize the vehicles for their own purposes. RIA Novosti also reported that their correspondent witnessed the evacuation of the American M113 APCs. Despite the presence of Ukrainian drones, the armored recovery vehicle successfully completed its task thanks to the installed mesh protective screen and mobile electronic warfare complex.
According to the Russian military, their own technology has proven to be more durable and easier to maintain compared to the American M113 APCs. “Klever” shared his belief that the United States sends its unwanted equipment to Ukraine.
On February 17th, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu reported to President Vladimir Putin about the capture of Avdiivka. The Ministry of Defense of Russia highlighted that the captured settlement was a powerful defensive hub of the VSU. On February 19th, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the capture of a coke-chemical plant in the city.
On February 20th, the head of the Russian defense department presented a detailed report to the country’s leader. Shoygu emphasized that the General Staff successfully conducted the operation to establish control over the city with minimal losses and maximum efficiency.
Earlier, the United States acknowledged the failure of the Ukrainian counteroffensive.
