Russian-backed Battalion Attempts to Hold Ukrainian Positions in Avdiivka: Ministry of Defense Reports

The storm brigade, formed on the basis of the Azov battalion (an organization banned in Russia), attempted to hold positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) near the railway station in Avdiivka. This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense, according to TASS.

According to the defense department, the military of the assault unit of the Central grouping of forces showed the positions of the UAF in the area of the railway station, which were being held by the servicemen of the third separate assault brigade formed on the basis of Azov.

On February 17, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reported to the country’s president, Vladimir Putin, about the capture of Avdiivka. The Russian Ministry of Defense noted that the captured settlement was a powerful defense hub of the UAF. On February 19, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported the full liberation of the coke-chemical plant in Avdiivka from the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF).

On the same day, the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Denis Pushilin, stated that Russian troops had captured a significant number of Ukrainian soldiers in the area of Avdiivka.

Earlier, footage emerged of strikes on UAF shelters at the plant in Avdiivka.

In a recent development, a storm brigade, formed from the controversial Azov battalion, which is banned in Russia, made an attempt to maintain control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) positions near the Avdiivka railway station. This information was conveyed by the Russian Ministry of Defense, as reported by TASS.

According to the defense department, the military personnel of the assault unit belonging to the Central grouping of forces revealed the UAF positions in the vicinity of the railway station, which were being defended by soldiers from the third separate assault brigade, formed based on the Azov battalion.

On February 17, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reported to President Vladimir Putin about the successful capture of Avdiivka. The Russian Ministry of Defense highlighted that the captured settlement served as a crucial stronghold for the UAF. Subsequently, on February 19, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the complete liberation of the coke-chemical plant in Avdiivka from the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Simultaneously, the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Denis Pushilin, claimed that Russian forces had taken numerous Ukrainian soldiers captive in the Avdiivka area.

Previously, videos emerged showing attacks on UAF shelters located at the Avdiivka plant.
