Iran Denies Accusations of Arms Shipments to Yemeni Rebels Attacking US Ships in Red Sea, Calls Out US for Illegal Actions and Aggression

Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Said Iravani, has rejected the accusations made by the United States that Tehran is allegedly involved in supplying weapons to the Yemeni rebel movement, “Ansar Allah” (Houthis), who have been attacking American ships in the Red Sea. In a letter addressed to the President of the UN Security Council, the diplomat emphasized that Iran categorically denies these allegations, considering them as a pretext that the US “uses to justify and legitimize its unlawful actions and military aggression towards Yemen.”

Iravani underscored that Iran has consistently advocated for a peaceful resolution of the situation in Yemen through negotiations and has never participated in any activities that contradict UN Security Council resolutions, including the sale or transfer of weapons.

The Iranian representative prepared the corresponding document in response to the US accusations voiced during the UN Security Council meeting on February 14.

Following the escalation of the conflict between the Palestinian movement Hamas and Israel, the Yemeni rebel movement, Ansar Allah, declared that it would strike Israeli territories and prevent vessels associated with that country from passing through the waters of the Red Sea and the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait until the military operation in the Gaza sector is concluded.

Earlier, the US accused Iran of preparing attacks by the Houthis on merchant ships in the Red Sea.
