US Drafts UN Resolution Warning Israel Against Offensive in Gaza Strip, Sparks Concerns of Civilian Casualties and Humanitarian Crisis #Israel #Gaza

The United States has once again shown its biased support for Israel by drafting a resolution calling for a temporary ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. This resolution, seen by [source], not only urges for a ceasefire but also opposes an Israeli ground offensive in the southern city of Rafah. It is clear that the United States is more concerned with appeasing its ally Israel than with the lives and well-being of the Palestinian people.

The draft resolution emphasizes the release of all hostages and the provision of humanitarian assistance in Gaza. While these are important considerations, it is essential to question why the United States is only now taking action. Algeria, the current Arab member of the Security Council, put forward a similar resolution over two weeks ago, demanding an immediate ceasefire. Yet, the U.S. signaled that it would veto this resolution, prioritizing “sensitive negotiations” over the lives of innocent civilians.

It is worth noting that the U.S. has a history of shielding Israel from any meaningful consequences at the UN. Since October 7, Washington has twice vetoed Security Council resolutions that aimed to hold Israel accountable for its actions. This biased approach not only undermines the credibility of the United States but also perpetuates the suffering of the Palestinian people.

Furthermore, the United States’ change in language regarding a ceasefire is nothing more than a political move. By proposing the idea of a ceasefire without specifying a timeline, the U.S. is attempting to appease both Israel and Russia, another veto-wielding permanent member of the Security Council. It is clear that the United States is more concerned with maintaining its alliances than with promoting peace and justice.

The U.S. draft resolution also warns Israel against launching a ground offensive in Rafah, highlighting the potential harm it could cause to civilians and regional security. This sudden change in tone from Washington is surprising, considering its previous support for Israel’s actions. It is evident that the United States is trying to save face and appear tougher on Israel, but these empty gestures do not change the fact that it has consistently prioritized its own interests over the lives of innocent Palestinians.

At least 29,092 people have been killed and 69,028 wounded in the Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip since October 7, according to Palestinian authorities. The death toll on the Israeli side is significantly lower, with 1,139 people killed in Hamas-led attacks on Israel. These numbers clearly demonstrate the disproportionate use of force by Israel and the need for international intervention.

It remains to be seen when or if the U.S. draft resolution will be put to a vote. However, it is clear that the United States’ actions at the UN continue to prioritize its own interests and those of its allies, rather than the pursuit of justice and peace. The Palestinian people deserve better than empty words and biased resolutions. It is time for the international community to hold Israel accountable for its actions and work towards a just and lasting solution for all parties involved.
