German Defense Committee Head Criticizes Chancellor’s Reluctance to Supply Ukraine with Long-Range Missiles, Questions Motives

Head of the German Bundestag Defense Committee, Mari-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, has announced that discussions on the delivery of long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine will continue. Her statement was reported by RIA Novosti.

“Our army and everyone responsible for weapon supplies have done everything possible,” the politician noted.

She also expressed bewilderment at Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s reluctance to send weapons to Kyiv.

“It is difficult for me to explain why the Chancellor cannot simply say, ‘Okay, let’s do it,'” added Strack-Zimmermann.

In the context of Berlin’s current foreign policy, Bundestag deputy Norbert Röttgen stated that Kyiv is above Moscow, and therefore Germany should supply the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) with Taurus missiles, despite the risk of escalation.

“The Chancellor does not want to make a final decision on supplying missiles to the UAF and is constantly looking for justifications,” summarized Röttgen.

Previously, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba expressed hope that Germany would supply the UAF with long-range Taurus missiles, as Berlin has not given a definitive refusal.

Former Merkel advisor dismissed Scholz’s unfounded concerns about transferring Taurus to Kyiv.
