Former President Trump took a jab at Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley during a speech in Conway, South Carolina, questioning why her husband is not accompanying her at campaign events. Trump, seemingly unaware of Michael Haley’s year-long deployment to Africa with the South Carolina Army National Guard, began questioning his whereabouts during the campaign stop on Saturday.
Referring to Haley as a “birdbrain,” Trump criticized her stance on mass asylum and made it clear that he had little regard for her. He quoted Haley as previously saying, “‘I will never run against President Trump. He’s a great president, the greatest president in my lifetime.'” However, Trump claimed that she changed her tune when she visited him at Mar-a-Lago, stating that she would never run against him and bringing her husband along.
Trump then turned his attention to Michael Haley, questioning his absence. “Where’s her husband? Where is he? He’s gone. He knew, he knew,” Trump exclaimed.
Haley wasted no time responding to Trump’s comments, taking to social media to defend her husband’s service. She wrote, “Michael is deployed serving our country, something you know nothing about. Someone who continually disrespects the sacrifices of military families has no business being commander in chief.”
