Trump Challenges Biden to Immediate Debate, Biden Responds with Sarcasm

In a continuing feud between former President Donald Trump and current President Joe Biden, Trump has issued a challenge for an “immediate” debate, to which Biden responded with sarcasm. The Outnumbered panel discussed this ongoing clash, which has gained significant attention as the November election approaches.

During a radio appearance with conservative commentator Dan Bongino, Trump expressed his desire for a debate, stating that it would be “good” for the country. “I’d like to debate him now because we should debate. We should debate for the good of the country,” Trump emphasized.

Later that day, while campaigning in Nevada, Biden was asked about Trump’s comments. Responding with a hint of sarcasm, Biden said, “Immediately? Well, if I were him, I’d want to debate me, too. He’s got nothing else to do.” This exchange reflects the contentious nature of the upcoming election.

The outlook for general election debates remains uncertain, especially with Trump leading the GOP primary race. The Republican National Committee has withdrawn from the Commission on Presidential Debates, with Trump himself criticizing the organization as “corrupt.” According to NBC News, Trump called them “totally corrupt” and “totally Democrat-leaning.” Despite his criticism, Trump expressed his willingness to participate in as many as 20 debates, even if organized by the Commission.

Interestingly, Trump’s newfound willingness to debate contrasts with his previous rejection of debates with his primary challengers. Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley participated in multiple debates while Trump abstained, citing his substantial lead in GOP polls as the reason for not engaging with distant challengers.

The debate commission has scheduled three general election debates, but neither Trump nor Biden has publicly agreed to participate. The scheduled dates are September 16 at Texas State University in San Marcos, October 1 at Virginia State University in Petersburg, and October 9 at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, according to NBC.

The ongoing clash between Trump and Biden highlights the high stakes of the 2024 campaign. It remains to be seen whether these debates will materialize and how they will impact the election outcome.
