A body was discovered on Monday in Lady Bird Lake in Austin, Texas, marking yet another case in a series of unexplained deaths in the area. The unidentified person was found after a 911 caller reported seeing a body in the lake, according to Austin-Travis County EMS. The incident occurred around 1:52 p.m., as reported by Fox Austin. This discovery follows several other bodies that have been found in the same lake over the past few months. Since last year, at least five individuals have been found dead in Lady Bird Lake, which is a section of the Colorado River flowing through downtown Austin.
Authorities, including Austin police homicide and missing persons unit detectives, the lake patrol unit, and crime scene specialists, responded to the scene to conduct an investigation. The previous deaths in Lady Bird Lake involved men in their 30s who had been drinking in the popular bar area of Rainey Street before being discovered deceased in the water. In February, Jason John, 30, was found dead in the lake a week after he was last seen on Rainey Street. Clifton Axtell, 40, was identified as the man found dead in the same area on March 5. On April 1, Jonathan Honey, 33, was found, one day after he was last seen at a food truck on Rainey Street. Another victim, John Christopher Hays-Clark, 30, was discovered in April near a dam approximately two miles downstream from where the others were found.
In June 2023, authorities dismissed speculations of a serial killer being responsible for the deaths. However, the recent discovery has reignited concerns about the safety of the area. The circumstances surrounding these deaths remain unclear, and investigations are ongoing.
In a separate incident, the Austin Police Department announced last week that they were searching for a woman connected to multiple cases of drugging and robbing men in downtown Austin. It is currently unknown if this suspect has any connection to the bodies found in Lady Bird Lake.
