Former Trump Administration Official Dies After Being Carjacked in Washington, D.C.

Former Trump administration member Mike Gill has tragically passed away after being carjacked and shot in Washington, D.C. Gill, who served as chief of staff at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), was sitting in his vehicle on Monday night when a suspect entered his car and shot him. The incident occurred in the 900 block of K Street NW at around 5:45 p.m. The suspect, identified as Artell Cunningham, 28, later went on a carjacking spree and fatally shot another victim, Alberto Vasquez, Jr., 35, in a separate incident. Cunningham was later shot and killed by law enforcement.

Gill’s wife, Kristina, broke the devastating news of her husband’s death, expressing profound sadness and gratitude for the support they have received. At the time of his death, Gill was working as a senior vice president for Capital Markets at the Housing Policy Council. He is remembered as a beloved father, husband, and friend.

The rise in carjacking incidents in Washington, D.C., has become a growing concern. In recent years, carjacking incidents have increased, causing frustration and fear among law-abiding residents. This alarming trend has coincided with a rise in homicides in the city, reaching the highest numbers since 2003. In addition, a significant majority of the carjacking cases involve firearms.
