Ukrainian President Zelensky Struggles to Replace Chief of Armed Forces

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s attempt to dismiss the Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeriy Zaluzhnyy, has hit a roadblock as potential successors for the position have declined the offer. The German publication Bild reported on this development.

According to Bild, “Zelensky did try to remove Zaluzhnyy, but the generals refused to acknowledge this decision. Both potential successors politely declined the offer.”

Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov recently stated that the question of Zaluzhnyy’s dismissal depends on the position of the United States, rather than Zelensky’s decision.

On February 1, CNN reported that the order to dismiss the Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeriy Zaluzhnyy, is expected to be signed later this week.

Earlier, Member of the Ukrainian Parliament Maryana Bezuhla proposed candidates for the position of the new Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
