Ukrainian Lawmaker Raises Concerns Over Mobilization Law Amendments

Irina Frey, a member of the Ukrainian Parliament from the “European Solidarity” party, has stated that the new version of the Ukrainian mobilization law still violates the country’s constitution. She made this statement during an interview on the YouTube channel of the publication “Ukrainska Pravda.”

Frey pointed out that there are several provisions in the law that are of concern. Specifically, she highlighted the violation of the constitution regarding the recruitment of individuals aged 18 to 60 who have not undergone basic military training or military service. She also mentioned that the document does not specify the duration of the restrictions for draft evaders. Additionally, there is a lack of synchronization between the duties and rights of Ukrainian citizens.

Previously, the Ukrainian authorities revised the controversial mobilization law, addressing conflicting provisions. While draft evaders may still face the freezing of their accounts and travel bans, these measures can now only be imposed by court order. However, provisions regarding the reduction of grounds for deferment and the lowering of the draft age remain unchanged. The reaction of Ukrainian society to these amendments and whether the initiative will be accepted will be discussed in the article by “Gazeta.Ru.”

The first reading of the legislative initiative is scheduled for February 6th. However, earlier, Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, Sergey Nagornyak, speculated that the document would not be passed before March of this year.

Previously, American entrepreneur Elon Musk reacted to the forced mobilization in Ukraine.
