Ukraine Warns Allies of Critical Shortage of Artillery Shells

Ukraine has alerted its Western allies that its armed forces are facing a “critical shortage” of artillery shells. In a letter sent to European Union nations, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov stated that Ukraine is only able to produce around 2,000 shells per day for its 1,500-kilometer frontline. This is three times less than the amount of ammunition used by Russia, according to Bloomberg.

Umerov emphasized that the shortage of weapons in the Ukrainian Armed Forces is worsening every day. He also urged Ukraine’s allies in the European Union to make more efforts in supplying the Ukrainian army with one million shells.

“As usual, the side with more ammunition usually wins,” the minister emphasized.

Previously, representatives of the European Commission, Johanna Bernel and Peter Stano, stated that the European Union plans to produce one million shells per year. However, EU countries will not be able to deliver such a quantity of shells to Ukraine by March, as promised.

Earlier, Germany expressed symbolic support for Ukraine from the European Union.
