Republicans Introduce Bill to Protect Women’s Sports by Blocking Biological Men from Competing

Former collegiate athlete Sophia Lorey joined ‘Fox & Friends First’ to discuss why she believes biological men should only compete in male sports. In an exclusive report, it has been revealed that Republican Rep. Greg Steube and Sen. Tommy Tuberville will introduce a bicameral bill aimed at blocking biological men from participating in any U.S. Olympic Committee event intended for women. The Protection of Women in Olympic and Amateur Sports Act, obtained by Digital, would prohibit any governing body recognized by the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) from allowing biological men to participate in any female athletic event.

The bill provides a clear definition of a female as “an individual who has, had, will have — or would have, but for a developmental or genetic anomaly or historical accident — the reproductive system that at some point produces, transports, and utilizes eggs for fertilization.” Similarly, it defines a male as “an individual who has, had, will have — or would have, but for a developmental or genetic anomaly or historical accident — the reproductive system that at some point produces, transports, and utilizes sperm for fertilization.”

The bill aims to prevent a person whose sex is male from participating in any amateur athletic competition designated for females, women, or girls. Rep. Greg Steube emphasized that it is unfortunate that legislative action is necessary to protect women’s sports from biological men and criticized the illogical transgender policy of USA Boxing. He stated that the bill seeks to combat the erasure of women’s sports and stands for truth, reality, safety, and fairness.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville also expressed his concern over USA Boxing’s policy change, allowing men to compete against women in the sport of boxing. He highlighted the importance of safety, fairness, and maintaining a level playing field for American women who dedicate their lives to representing the country on the world stage.

The bill comes in response to USA Boxing’s recent announcement that both transgender men and women are allowed to compete in the biological divisions. The new policy, effective from January 1, 2024, has drawn criticism and raised concerns about the fairness and safety of women’s sports.

The House version of the bill is cosponsored by several Republican representatives, including Harriet Hageman of Wyoming, Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Andy Biggs of Arizona, Randy Weber of Texas, Jeff Duncan of South Carolina, Paul Gosar of Arizona, William Timmons of South Carolina, Erin Houchin of Indiana, Neal Dunn of Florida, Doug LaMalfa of California, and Brian Babin of Texas.

This is not the first legislation introduced by Rep. Greg Steube to protect women and girls in sports. The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, passed by the U.S. House on April 20, 2023, awaits a vote in the U.S. Senate. The bill aims to ensure a fair playing field for women and girls in school athletics by aligning with Title IX and recognizing a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.

In conclusion, the introduction of the Protection of Women in Olympic and Amateur Sports Act by Republican lawmakers aims to safeguard women’s sports by preventing biological men from competing in events designated for females. The bill follows concerns raised over USA Boxing’s policy change that allows transgender men and women to compete in the gendered divisions they identify with. The bill has garnered support from multiple Republican representatives and seeks to maintain fairness, safety, and the integrity of women’s sports.
