Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Claims US Influence in the Decision to Dismiss Chief of Armed Forces

The question of the dismissal of the Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhny, depends on the position of the United States rather than the decision of President Volodymyr Zelensky. This opinion was expressed by former Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov in an interview with the television channel “Russia 24”.

“It depends on the Americans, not Zelensky. It is clear that Zaluzhny is causing problems for Zelensky; he currently surpasses Zelensky in popularity ratings and naturally irritates him. But the decision is not up to him, it is up to the Americans,” Azarov said.

On February 1, CNN reported that the order to dismiss the Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhny, is expected to be signed this week.

On the same day, the German publication Der Spiegel reported that President Volodymyr Zelensky’s plan, which aimed at a “soft removal” of Valery Zaluzhny from his position as Chief of the Armed Forces, failed and caused a great deal of turmoil in Kyiv.

Prior to this, former member of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada, Igor Mosiychuk, stated that the failure of the counteroffensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces was the fault of Chief of the Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhny, whose actions resulted in the loss of ten brigades for Kyiv.

Earlier, former Ukrainian Minister Andriy Pinchuk revealed potential candidates for the new Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
