Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Sends National Guard Troops to Support Texas in Border Crisis Battle

Former Acting ICE Director Tom Homan, OutKick’s Tomi Lahren, and former Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker have provided insights into the ongoing border crisis battle between the Biden administration and Texas. In a show of support, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced on Thursday that he will be deploying National Guard troops from his state to assist Texas Governor Greg Abbott in addressing the issue of illegal immigration at the southern border.

During a press conference on Thursday morning, Governor DeSantis stated that he is offering a battalion of up to 1,000 soldiers from the Florida National Guard to help secure Texas’ border. Initially, 100 troops will be sent as part of the first deployment. Governor DeSantis emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “We are here to join as Floridians to say that we need to stop this invasion at our southern border once and for all.” The deployment of the Florida State Guard, a first-time occurrence, has also been authorized to provide additional assistance.

The move by Governor DeSantis comes as Texas Governor Greg Abbott continues to face legal battles with the Biden administration. Over a dozen states have expressed their support for Abbott’s efforts in addressing illegal immigration and have pledged resources to help secure the border amidst record levels of illegal crossings. However, the Biden administration has threatened legal action against Texas, citing concerns over the state’s seizure of Shelby Park near Eagle Pass and the cutting of razor wire along the border. The Supreme Court recently ruled in favor of the administration, allowing agents to continue cutting the border wire set up by Texas.

Furthermore, the Biden administration has filed lawsuits against Texas over a recently signed law that authorizes state and local officials to arrest illegal immigrants. The administration argues that Texas is interfering with federal control over immigration and border security, putting both agents and migrants at risk. However, Governor Abbott asserts that the Constitution grants states the right to protect themselves against invasion and that the federal government has failed to fulfill its duties in this regard. He cites Article 1, which reserves to each state the right of self-defense.

Governor DeSantis echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that if the Constitution rendered states powerless in defending themselves against invasion, it would not have been ratified, and Texas would not have joined the union. Both governors are taking a firm stance against the Biden administration’s handling of the border crisis and are actively working to address the issue.
