South Carolina Couple Arrested After Leading Police on Chase in Spray-Painted Car with Animals Inside

A South Carolina couple, described as “Bonnie and Clyde wannabes,” was apprehended by authorities after a dramatic police chase in a spray-painted car. The vehicle not only contained the couple but also a dog, a cat, and four chickens. The incident took place in Laurens County, South Carolina.

The events unfolded when deputies initially spotted Joshua Harvey driving a black Honda sedan with expired tags near South Frontage Road and Cook Road in Gray Court. Harvey’s erratic driving and inability to stay in his lane caught the attention of the officers. When they tried to pull him over, Harvey refused and led the deputies on a pursuit that crossed the Greenville County line. Eventually, due to safety concerns, the chase was called off.

Later in the day, the deputies encountered the spray-painted white car, which was an attempt by Harvey and his partner, Rosie Smith, to deceive the authorities. Once again, the couple refused to stop, leading to another chase. This time, the pursuit was halted due to school traffic in the area.

However, the deputies were determined to apprehend the couple and resumed the chase on Highway 14 towards I-385. During this reckless pursuit, Harvey was observed unlawfully passing cars and driving recklessly. Eventually, the spray-painted sedan was disabled on the interstate.

Sheriff Don Reynolds expressed his gratitude to the deputies involved in capturing the couple, stating, “These Bonnie and Clyde wannabes have tried to make fleeing from law enforcement a habit, but eventually your luck runs out.” He also commended the officers for their efforts and emphasized the safe conclusion of the incident.

Upon taking Harvey and Smith into custody, authorities discovered a dog, a cat, and four chickens inside the vehicle. The animals were handed over to Animal Control officers for their care and well-being.

Joshua Harvey was charged with failure to stop, while Rosie Smith faced charges of failure to stop, DUI, ill treatment of animals (two counts), and driving under suspension, among other charges.

The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office concluded the report by highlighting the successful arrest and expressing gratitude for the safe resolution of the incident.
